Problems with Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim - 4GB console - Limited Game Features
74First impressions misleads console problems
So a few weeks ago, I purchased a replacement Xbox 360 console, which was the new 4GB Xbox 360 slim. My first impressions fooled me, making me believe the new Slim console was amazing, but i soon found myself in a bundle of messes.
When i got my slim, i was hooked on Bungie's Halo: Reach. I played the campaign for days before i moved on to online matchmaking. I soon encounter tons of problems. The first and most disappointing problem was the fact that the console limits game features. There is a whole playlist of several types of game modes on Halo: Reach that cannot be played on the 4GB Slim consoles. Thats right, online Cooperative games cannot be played on the new console! This does not only prevent you from playing Co-op missions online with your friends, but you can't even play firefight or other co-op type games. I first noticed this when I tried to complete the daily challenges on Halo: Reach. Everyday there is at least two challenges that require you to play a Co-op based game online. Since 4GB Slim owners can't ever play the game type, it makes it virtually impossible to get the achievement for completing all of the challenges for a week. I also get left out of parties with my friends because they want to play co-op game types. Whenever I try to play online co-op, an error appears flashing saying "A user does not have the required Harddrive to play this Game Type."
After my disappointment and frustration with the problem, I set out to Google and searched the reasoning behind the problems. I came across a few articles that were written the day Halo: Reach came out, which led people to believe that there was just a bug with the game and that it would be patched in an upcoming update. Days went on with no fix, and thats when Microsoft released an announcement behind the problems. The problem doesn't come from the game at all, but the 4GB Slim console. The console doesn't actually have a Harddrive, but 4GB of internal storage. This storage is essentially like a built in flashdrive, and cannot boot some game content due to the fact that the storage is not compatible for specific content. Who ever has ever bought or ever plans to buy the 4GB Slim, will never be able to access these specific features unless they buy a Harddrive from Microsoft, which ranges to around an additional $80.00. Microsoft didn't clarify this problem before being sold, and basically sucks people into buying the official Microsoft Harddrives, or even the more expensive consoles with loads of memory you will never get close to using.
Microsoft essentially traps everyone who buys the 4GB Slim console because if you want all game features, you have to buy the official Xbox 360 Slim Harddrive. You can't even use the model's Harddrives..
Another problem that I encountered with the new console that fueled even more of a rage, is the built in "wifi" router that is a piece of garbage. Yeah the concept sounds impressive, but Microsoft never mentioned how bad the router actually is. I noticed small lags and and occasional dropped connections, but you always get that when playing online. I then noticed that I couldn't connect to Xbox live parties with my friends, getting a message saying that I am not connected to Xbox Live. I can't even play the limited matchmaking games online with my friends. I don't only hate that i can rarely connect with my friends, but when I play solo online, i ALWAYS get disconnected from Xbox Live and it causes me removed from the game and reconnect to Xbox live. Ton's of people will say that its because of my network router, which is not true at all. My brothers both have the original model of the Xbox 360, and they both use the wireless adapter, but don't experience any of these problems. I never had these problems with my old 360.
I would advise not buying the 360 Slim console, because it's truly a waste of money for a quieter console. I wouldn't ever buy anything Microsoft makes in fact. I have had nothing but problems with everything i've owned from Microsoft. I have had a Mac for 3 years now, and have never had a problem.

You paid premium money for your Mac which is why you had no problems. You cheapest out on the 360 and got what you paid for. Pay for a premium model and you get no problems.
that is why you buy a new hard drive for the 4gig such as a 250 gig hard drive.. derrr
you know they give you the option to buy the 4gb cuz its cheaper not everyone can afford the whole deal in one shot. aand the hard drice is 130 which is the amount maybe a lil more then what it would cost you to just buy the whole thing and as far as i can tell halo reach is the only game that has that problem
I have the 4gig slim. I knew all of this before purchasing it. I have never been disconnected from Live and the wifi is much faster and more dependable than my Macbook Pro. I bought it about a week after it debuted.

Check this out, Slim Hard Drives for alot cheaper than you will find them in a store. 120gb and 250gb models
dude ur nat type aint open.
im on my 2nd 360 slim. the first one stopped reading disks. my second 360 freezes sumtimes. its only a week old . wtf microsoft! and i purchased hard drive as well. the least they should do is give us free warranties.
the old hard drives work just perfect if you watch the videos on you tube open up old hard drives pull hard drive out of the case and it plugs into xbox slim
I bought the 4GB one on Ebay (guy misspelled xbox and nooone could seem to find it. nice new console for 75 bucks) and put in an aftermarket hdd. I'm not having ANY of the problems you are discribing connection wise... Maybe you should look into your router?!?!
I too could afford the full price for a full blown xbox 360 so I opted for the Slim. I added a 250GB WD HDD of ebay for $32 and Flashed it and formatted it to Fat32 and now I'm up with the big boys. Half the cost.
ii also have a slim 4gb but i got a 60 gn hdd in it and sometimes it disconnects from xbox live also and now it doesnt turn on at all i think the slim model has more problems than the old xbox ive owned xbox 360's before the slim and they all worked fine i only have my elite left but doesnt read the disks (which is why i bought the slim) but now im thinkin of gettin it fixed and selling my slim
its best to get a brand new one from the shop in stead of second hand
I have the 250 gig and for the most part it is great. Have a lot of problems with the built in wi fi tho. Nat is open and yes I have my router set to the 1360 required, it just sucks. BTW before I hear you must have a bad router it is a Netgear N-750 dual band on a 20 mps connection
i have had mine 4 9 months have played many games co-op
fire fight all that not limited may i suggest u update your halo reach but if you plan on playing halo reach you will need to get a thumb drive thats at least 4 gigs because you cant a lot of maps with out buying noble and defiant map packs and i did end up buying a external 320 harddrive because of the data from the maps are like 4 gigs thats my gamer tag look me up on reach maybe i can help thanks
I got the "4gb" slim but I'm looking at my memory unit's capacity and its saying 3 gb.
wtf?
^^ Its because of the arcade games that are put on before u buy the console
@johnysaxton, I just got a slim 4 gig, and immediately added a 16 gig thumb drive (generic).
If you go to system/storage, you have the option to move files from the console's memory to the thumb drive, and I've had no problems playing any of my games. I do however, have the same problem as the others with the built in wi-fi.
It's really bad, and I'll have to buy a separate wi-fi adapter to get decent connectivity. The built in wi-fi is so slow, it takes forever to use the built in MICROSOFT Windows Media Player, that it doesn't pay to bother.
I guess I'll have to get a separate HDD for all my media...that MS should have put in the thing in the first place. I paid enough for it, $300 with Kinect, and it doesn't cost MS very much for a small HDD.
Xbox 360 Elite way beter
