Microsoft to Discontinue Xbox 360 Slim and Add a new Matte Design
Some people may have noticed that the Slim model of Microsoft's Xbox 360 are sometimes all glossy or sometimes partially gloss. The Xbox 360 Slim offered a compact improvement for the Xbox 360's hardware, but Microsoft has announced that it will be discontinuing the glossy slim model and use the matte finish for the upcoming console.
Some of you may be wondering what the difference is between the gloss and matte finish. Gloss is extremely shiny and shows smears and fingerprints. Matte is a smooth finish that doesn't really have a shine. It's more dull but stays cleaner. After design complaints from the all-gloss Xbox 360 from users, Microsoft has decided to use design's more like the 4GB Xbox 360 Slim console.
The easiest way to compare the old design with the new is to look at the 4GB and the larger HDD Slim consoles. The 4GB slim model is mostly matte with only a small amount of gloss as an outline. This is what the new design's will feature. The slim models that come with larger harddrives are all-gloss covered.
The exception to Microsoft's design change is for limited edition consoles. The upcoming limited edition consoles for Gears of War 3 and Star Wars are said to be gloss coated. Microsoft has not verified if other limited edition consoles will also feature a gloss finish.

i for one prefer the matte finish... its a false perceived sense of quality with the "gloss" finish. Like most new electronics they use the shiny plastic because we're like crows an like shiny things. What needs to be realized is you wipe that nice shiny plastic with even wet paper towel and your gonna scratch it. After a few years of moving around, putting in and out of bags its gonna look horrible. The only way i would ever pay money for shiny electronics is if i plan to put it on a shelf and never touch it and only dust it with micro fiber cloths. In short the matte finish while it may not peak your immediate attention... do you really want it too? A console shouldn't be so obnoxiously shiny to be distracting while playing... same goes for the lights on the system and controllers they both should dime almost out after 5 mins or so of being on. I personal put electrical tape over my controller light its really annoying in a dark room. Microsoft and all companies for that matter need to think of how form and function are the same thing and instead of trying to appeal to the instinctual behaviors or us... and make a quality product that one can appreciate because it does its job well, and not just look good and red ringing.

This was very helpull to see because i hav been stressing at this....i thot the 250 gb was glossy and thats wat i was planning on geting for xmas i planned on getting the holiday value bundle with 250 gb 360 kinect 3 month gold mem. And 2free games but when i saw a rlly new unboxing of this product it was 250 gb but not glossy! I got rlly pissd cuz glossy is much more nice...aside from the fingerprints. I even called xbox to find out if this bundle did not include a glossy xbox but they were closed..lol...i saw this post and sadly but relifingly i find out the truth..thanks xD
