RedSn0w iOS4.0 Jailbreak Tutorial

Apple recently released their most impressive firmware yet, iOS4 was officially released to the public. With over 100 new features, this new firmware looks outstanding. Apple restricts the full features to only the newer generations of iPhones and iPod touch’s. When the iOS4 was released to developers only, among the recipients was a team of “Jailbreakers,” which figured out how to unlock the firmware just days after it was released to developers. We are pleased to announce that the iOS4 Jailbreak has been released to the public!

Like we said, iOS4 is only fully featured on the newer mobile devices, which limits the Jailbreak to these same devices. This Jailbreak will only work on iPhone 3G models and iPod Touch’s from the second generation models and up.

The program that will be used to Jailbreak iOS4 is called RedSn0w 0.9.5. Along with BlackRa1n, RedSn0w joins the competition as the fastest jailbreak. RedSn0w is currently only available for Mac computers.

  1. Download iOS4. This can easily be done by just plugging in your device, and check for updates. You can also download it from a third-party, and manually install it by restoring your device to the iOS4 firmware.
  2. After you have the new firmware installed, you’ll need to download RedSn0w 0.9.5.
  3. With your device plugged in, run RedSn0w and direct it to the iOS4 firmware.
  4. A dialog box will pop up, select “Install Cydia.” Before clicking “next,” make sure your device is connected and TURNED OFF.
  5. Make your device enter Recovery Mode. This can be done by holding the power/lock button and the home button at the same time. Continue to hold the 2 buttons, you see the “slide to turn off” screen, but keep holding them until the screen goes blank. Once the screen goes blank, release the power/lock button, but keep holding the home button. This puts your device in recovery mode, you WILL NOT lose your current files on your device. Once you put it into recovery mode, RedSn0w will begin to install and restart.
  6. Once RedSn0w automatically restarts your device, it will be ready to use. Congratulations on Jailbreaking iOS4!

Please note that Jailbreaking your device could cause loss of files and require you to restore your device. Follow this tutorial at your own risk. ModdedLife will not be held responsible for any effects of Jailbreaking your device.

Thats it! Let us know how it goes for you, and share this with everyone!

when i look for the ios 4.0 updated and click open it says unable to recognize specified ipsw can you please help and i have an ipod touch 3g

Try downloading it from Apple, but if that doesn't work, see if you can find it from another source. Save the file to a rememberable place, such as your desktop. When you plug in your ipod, navigate to it on your iTunes. Hold Shift and Click "restore" at the same time. A popup will come up that will let you browse for a file. Locate the 4.0 firmware file that you downloaded and click it. It should restore your ipod to that firmware.

If that doesn't work, let me know. Hope it Helps!

Are you trying to use an app that downloads music to your touch? Or are you trying to add songs from iTunes onto your iPod?
