Googles project to Change the way you use your phones - Google Voice
Once again, Google is at it to change the world. In 1995, the infamous Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford. By 1996, they had created a unique way of indexing and and displaying millions of websites by a single search input. In 1997, they changed their creation name from BackRub, to Google, which comes from the mathematical term, “Googol.” After trying to sell their project to Excite, which denied them, they decided to fly solo and continue to work on their soon-to-be amazing company. By 2000, Google reached over 1 billion index’s, making it the largest search engine. Also in 2000, google launched its advertising program, Adwords, with only 350 customers, as well as the Google toolbar and first 10 language versions. In 2001, Google launched their image search database. Starting in 2002, Google grew huge. They acquired tons of companies, including Pyra Labs, and extended their features, including YouTube, Chrome, Android, Blogger, Gmail, News, Book Store, AdSense, Maps, and tons of other amazing tools.
Currently, Google is working on changing the way people use technology. Right now, Google Wave, which is an application that redefines email, is being beta tested via invite only. Like I mentioned in a previous post, Google is changing the way we are connecting to the internet, with the Google Fiber experiment. There are tons of projects that Googlers are working on, but the one I’m going after right now is Google Voice.
Google Voice isn’t really publicly known at the moment, but there are no doubts that it will become huge in the upcoming months/years. Voice was first announced in 2009, when Google acquired Gizmo5. Google Voice is currently in invite-only beta testing.
Google Voice is an application that will change how people use their mobile phones and connect to the internet. Voice provides you with your own Google Number, which is like a phone number, and is used to ring of or any of your phones. Voice allows you to control almost everything about your phone, from the internet. The voicemail feature allows you to listen to your voicemail or read it in text form, all from your computer. You can customize your voicemail greeting by caller, playing a different voicemail message for certain people that call you. Not only can you view your voicemail from email or SMS text messages, but you can even forward, embed, and download voicemails.
