Apple 2012 Lineup - All Products to be Overhauled

According to Forbes, Apple plans to "completely overhaul" its products in 2012, with revisions to its line-up of iPads, iPhones, iMacs, and MacBook Airs.

Apple is a relatively secret company and usually keep their projects a mystery until the unveil (Or until a drunk engineer loses a prototype). Apple has said to be planning product overhauls in 2012, but specifics still remain a secret. Most of the current information only regards the new iPad, but reports also confirm overhauls of all Apple products.

Next Generation iPad (2012)

  • Apple is said to be finalizing bulk orders of key parts for the next-generation iPad. The finalization is said to be released sometime in December, but could end up extending into the first of the year.
  • Apple has been negotiating contracts with its supplier to develop parts for two prototype iPads. These parts include LED light bars and touch panels, which have been supplied to Apple since November. The Retina display may also make an appearance on the iPad!
  • DigiTimes says that the new iPad will begin mass production at the beginning of 2012 with a Keynote reveal in March. The projected release date for the "iPad 3" is sometime during the last quarter of 2012.
  • As far as the tech specs go for the iPad, the internal parts are supposed to be about the same as the iPad 2. It is said that the new iPad will be even thinner and contain a longer-lasting battery life.

MacBook Pro (2012)

  • The 2012 MacBook Pro seems to be the best overhaul in my opinion. It has been speculated to be receiving a High-Resolution 2880x1800 Retina display. The screen improvement has been said to provide four-times the amount of pixels as the current 15 inch Pro model. Apple has already incorporated a processor capable of the increased resolution and OSX Lion has already been revamped with modes to support the increased screen resolution.
  • The new Model will have USB 3.0 ports as well as Thunderbolt for fast data transfers.
  • OpenCL will be supported and graphics will be able to run with ease with the improved graphics card.
  • The dual and quad core processors have been improved to support the graphics and offers a turbo for your new MacBook Pro.
  • The projected release date is within the first half of the year.

MacBook Air (2012)

  • The first "thinnest" PC, the MacBook Air, made its debut in 2008. Since its original release, the MacBook Air has only been sold as a 13.3 inch screen model. In 2012, Apple will be releasing a newly designed 11.6, 13.3, and 15.4 inch model of the MacBook Air.
  • The 2012 MacBook Air is said to have a projected release date during the first quarter of 2012. The design remains a mystery, but the increased screen size is confirmed.
  • Some people are predicting that the MacBook Air will eventually overtake the MacBook Pro as the performance parts continue to improve.

The rest of the Apple products that will be receiving an overhaul remain secretive. The iMac has caused a debate for overhaul due to its steep price, but some people think that it may be pulled from the Mac lineup. The iPod's generally get a rework fairly regularly as it is, so the specs will most likely remain a secret until its debut at an Apple Keynote presentation.

Apple 2012 Lineup - A little about Apple

The future of Apple Inc has been up in the air since the early death of Apple's former CEO and the mastermind behind countless products that changed the use of personalized technology. Apple has always been known for their secretive projects that continue to astound electronic consumers. From the introduction of the Macintosh computer in the 1980's to the creation of the iPod and iTunes that revolutionized digital media in the turn of the millennium was just the beginning of Apple's life changing products. Soon after the success of never before seen technology, Apple continued to dominate the tech industry. Steve Jobs incorporated the mouse into home computing, designed a click wheel that amazed consumers with ease of navigating on mobile devices, and ended with what will become the future of technology: touch screen interfaces.

Apple is the reason why computers look like, and do what they do today. If it wasn't for Apple, computers may have never reached the stages of graphical interfaces and multiple type faces. We would most likely be using CD players and DVD players to listen and watch media. Apple digitalized media and revolutionized the personal computer down to a science.

The problem with Apple's unclear future is directly related to the death of Steve Jobs. Apple would have never existed if Steve Jobs held grudges. More people are just now finding out about the life and accomplishments of Steve Jobs, but his story made Apple what it is today. At the beginning of Apple, Steve and his two partners needed investors to move forward with their ideas. The first Apple investor was a man who had gained his wealth through investing in banks. This man became the CEO of Apple due to the amount of money he was offering the new tech company. The CEO and Steve Jobs constantly clashed over envisioned ideas and led to the firing of Steve Jobs. Jobs' was obsessed with his ideas and knew the potential impact that they would have on the technology industry. After being fired from his own company, Jobs' started another company that essentially became Apple Inc years later. His new company was called NeXT, a software developing company that revolutionized the operating system. NeXT had developed a successful product that needed investors to make distribution possible. NeXT had created the origins of Mac OS and offered to sell his new company to his own founded Apple Inc. The deal promised Steve Jobs to become CEO of Apple once again and incorporated the software Job's had developed in his side company.

If Steve Jobs had held a gruge against the CEO that fired him from his own company, Apple would be another spec in the technology world and NeXT most likely would've become the tycoon of the industry.

This being said, Steve Jobs made Apple into what it has become. After the introduction of digital media, Jobs continued to revolutionize technology by creating simple products with evolved technology. His ideas lead to the first all touchscreen smartphone, the iPhone. The iPhone alone won over customers and began fueling the Apple craze. Consumers became faithful to Apple and began only buying Apple electronics. Apple customers reached the impressive milestone near a 90th percentile satisfaction rate. The success of the iPhone led to more advanced iPhone and Mac models and eventually led to Job's envisioned tablet, the iPad. The iPad and iPhone are currently the greatest profit makers for Apple.

Apple 2012 Lineup - Why it could be bad

Since Steve Jobs has always been the mastermind behind Apples advanced products, the future may be uncertain for Apple. He narrowed Apple's products to a select few to expertise the products that were a success. He oversaw all steps of the development process and his opinions directly impacted the resulted products.

Without Steve being around anymore, more engineer and developer ideas can impact the development process by a long shot and can cause complications that Jobs would've avoided. Jobs focused on the idea of simplicity, operation, and uniformed design of all new products.

People have complained about seeking a larger iPhone or iPad screen to keep up with the larger display products. Jobs was opposed to change and kept uniform screen sizes for all generations of Apple products. Due to the uniformed screen sizes of Apple's portable devices, Apps would have to be redeveloped to fit within different sized screens. (This could cause excessive crashing and slow down the overall performance.)

If Apple ventures away from the ideas of Steve Jobs, they could begin producing products with complications due to excessive additions. These complications could lead to a rushed development process to meet deadlines and could be released without the perfection that Jobs has always used.

I hope the MacBook Pro update comes soon.

Apple has an announcement tomorrow, which could reveal the next generation Macbook Pro. They call it an "Educational Announcement," which hints the iBooks University bookstore. Apple usually always announces their product lineup in the first quarter of the year, so it might not be too much longer. My guess is that the new MacBooks will be released this spring or early summer.

Well, OS X Mountain Lion has been released as a dev preview.

ModdedLife 7 weeks ago

Yes it has. Mountain Lion wasn't officially announced when this hub was written. Mountain Lion is predicted to be released this summer. I will be writing a Mountain Lion specific hub soon hopefully.
